Wights is the Anglo Saxon word for vættir. These words are often use interchangeably. It is often seen in the word Land-wights and the Old Norse ‘land-vættir’ which are spirits or beings of place.
Wight can also refer to any supernatural being. This means there are instances in the Eddas and sagas, where the term is applied to gods, elves, animals, giants, and sometimes even humans. Modern use tends to be more specific using wights or vættir in referring to spirits
